Our Pastor – Fr. Jerry Tavares

Fr. Jerry Tavares was born in Toronto, raised in Hamilton and moved to Peterborough to attend Trent University. After completing his studies in History he entered St. Augustine’s Seminary in Toronto to study for the priesthood. Fr. Tavares was ordained a Priest on May 28th, 2010.

Since his ordination, Fr. Tavares served as Parochial Vicar at the Cathedral of St. Peter-in-Chains in Peterborough. Most recently, he served as Pastor of St. Alphonsus Liguori in Peterborough where he served for 9.5 years.

Fr. Tavares became Pastor of St. Peter the Apostle in Parry Sound on July 27, 2021. Aside from his duties at the Parish, Fr. Tavares also serves as a member of the Board of Governors of St. Augustine’s Seminary, as well as Diocesan Liturgical Master of Ceremonies for the Diocese of Peterborough.

He enjoys the outdoors, loves music (he’s an organist) and is a life-long Leafs fan.
